DUNDEE COUPLE JAILED AFTER TAKING TURNS TO ABUSE BOY
A couple accused of abusing a young boy after relocating to Dundee, following the destruction of his life in Liverpool, have received sentences totaling over 19 years in prison.Michael Riley, aged 31, and Jason Millar, aged 44, residents of Strathmartine Road, allegedly supplied the teenager with cocaine and alcohol before taking turns to abuse him at their former residence in Walton.
The victim disclosed the abuse during a conversation with a friend, expressing feelings of suicidal ideation and revealing that someone "had been messing with him." Prosecutor Martine Snowden told Liverpool Crown Court that police questioned the boy about why he continued to visit the residence despite the abuse, and he explained that Riley and Millar threatened to inform social services and his mother if he refused to stay.
He further revealed that the men had taken photographs of themselves sniffing cocaine from his body, warning him that sharing such pictures would lead to their public exposure.
The boy’s mother gave a distressing victim impact statement to the court, stating that her son currently sees no future, has no plans, and is a broken child.
Defense lawyer Stuart Mills, representing Riley, noted that his client had written a letter of apology for the suffering caused.
Meanwhile, Brendan Carville, acting for Millar, emphasized that his client deeply regrets his actions and played a secondary role in the abuse.
Riley was sentenced to 10 years and 9 months in prison, while Millar received a nine-year sentence after both pleaded guilty to causing a child to engage in sexual activities.
Both men are prohibited from any unsupervised contact with children under 16 and are required to register as sex offenders for life.
