CHORLEY MAN JAILED FOR PARTNER FIONA ROBINSON'S MURDER
A 27-year-old man from Chorley, Jason Gowen, was convicted of murdering Fiona Robinson, his partner. He was on bail pending sentencing for an assault on an ex-partner when he carried out the fatal attack last May.
The Crown Prosecution Service reported that Ms Robinson had suffered nine fractured ribs and was strangled during the assault.
Gowen confessed to her murder and was given a life sentence with a minimum of 20 years behind bars.
The incident unfolded when Gowen contacted emergency services at 2:15 BST on 26 May after finding Fiona unresponsive; she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Post-mortem tests identified multiple injuries, including broken ribs, bite marks, bruising, cuts, and strangulation signs.
Evidence showed Gowen provided inconsistent accounts for her injuries, suggesting she returned home with injuries after a night out or claiming her drink had been spiked.
CCTV footage depicted Fiona Robinson with injuries before the tragic event, and medical evidence supported that injuries occurred in the early hours of 25 May.
Concerns had previously been raised due to Gowen’s record of domestic abuse allegations and prior convictions for assaulting former partners.
Authorities described Gowen as a significant threat to women, and he was additionally sentenced for assaulting another former partner, with that sentence running alongside his other sentence.
Family members expressed sorrow and anger, illustrating the devastating impact of Gowen’s actions.
Law enforcement highlighted that Gowen had targeted women and failed to seek medical assistance for Fiona, which contributed to her death.
