JASON FLORE MURDERS HIS GIRLFRIEND STEPHANIE MARIE AT CRAWLEY TRAIN STATION
In a tragic and violent incident that has shocked the community of Crawley, 26-year-old Jason Flore was found guilty of the murder of his girlfriend, Stephanie Marie, aged 19. The devastating event unfolded in August 2024, during a confrontation that took place in a car park near Crawley's train station. According to reports, Flore and Stephanie, both originally from Mauritius, had been living in a makeshift tent in a disused parking area, a situation that underscores their difficult circumstances. On the morning of the incident, police were called to the scene around 7:05 am following reports of a heated altercation. When officers arrived, they discovered Stephanie lying with fatal stab wounds. Despite immediate medical efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene. The police quickly identified Flore nearby, near Haslett Avenue East, and he was apprehended by armed officers. During initial questioning, Flore claimed that Stephanie had stabbed herself, an assertion that was later disproved by evidence collected at the scene.
The court proceedings revealed the brutal nature of the attack. During the sentencing at Hove Crown Court, His Honour Judge Jeremy Gold described the sequence of events, stating, 'Stephanie was holding a knife and you were both behaving aggressively towards each other. Within a few moments, you stabbed her in the chest with that knife, penetrating her heart and aorta – an injury which inevitably caused her death.' The judge emphasized that Flore had formed the intent to kill during the violent altercation, which was fueled by alcohol and anger. The court also noted Flore's attempt to evade responsibility by fleeing the scene and falsely claiming that Stephanie had stabbed herself.
In light of the evidence and the gravity of the crime, the court sentenced Jason Flore to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 21 years. The judge highlighted the brutality and premeditation involved in the killing, marking it as a tragic loss for the community and a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of violence fueled by alcohol and emotional turmoil.
