OFFENDER CONFESSES TO RAPE IN COURT AFTER ACQUITTAL
In a shocking court case at Gloucester Crown Court, Jason Dodsworth, aged 33, who was previously acquitted of a rape charge, openly confessed to his guilt in a public setting.
During his own defense on two charges of assault causing actual bodily harm, Dodsworth stated: "I am formally confessing that I did on two occasions rape her and did make two threats to kill her.
I indecently assaulted her and threatened her.
What I did was wrong." The court had previously dropped the rape charges due to lack of evidence after Dodsworth pleaded not guilty.
Nonetheless, he was sentenced to 18 months in prison for assault, but having served five months on remand, he was expected to spend only a short additional time in custody.
The victim expressed outrage over the judgment, stating: "I cannot believe he let a rapist go free - he admitted he raped me." The case shocked the community and highlighted concerns about the handling of sexual assault allegations.
