JARED LAMB, THE CHORLEY PREDATOR, SENTENCED AFTER PLOTTING TO ABUSE CHILD IN SHEFFIELD
A man described as a 'dangerous predator' with a disturbing intent to sexually abuse a five-year-old girl has been sentenced to a significant prison term. Jared Lamb, aged 46, was found to have engaged in a series of malicious communications and the distribution of indecent images, all aimed at a young child, according to authorities from South Yorkshire Police.Investigations revealed that Lamb had sent explicit messages outlining his sinister plans to abuse the young girl. These messages were exchanged with undercover officers who were posing as the child's father, a tactic often used by law enforcement to catch offenders before they can carry out their harmful intentions. Alongside these communications, Lamb also shared a number of indecent images, further evidencing his malicious intent.
The police apprehended Lamb after he traveled from his residence in Chorley, specifically from Brookwood Way, to Sheffield. His trip was part of an apparent attempt to meet the girl and her father, which was thwarted by law enforcement officers. The incident took place on July 20, when Lamb was caught in the act of planning the meeting.
Following his arrest, Lamb faced a court hearing at Sheffield Crown Court. He pleaded guilty to charges related to arranging a child sex offence and the distribution of indecent images of a child. The court sentenced him to five years in prison. Additionally, Lamb was ordered to serve a further six years on license after his release, ensuring ongoing supervision and restrictions to prevent further harm.
Furthermore, Lamb was placed under an indefinite sexual harm prevention order, a legal measure designed to restrict his activities and monitor his behavior to protect the community from potential future offenses.
Detective Constable Kayleigh Banks emphasized the critical role played by the Internet Sexual Offences Team in tackling such crimes. She highlighted the importance of online surveillance and proactive monitoring, stating, “Online chat platforms and sites are often where disturbing crimes like Lamb’s begin, and it is the work of the Internet Sexual Offences Team to ensure that sex offenders are caught and brought to justice before a child comes to harm.”
