JANET ROBINSON AND SHOCKING CHILD AND ANIMAL ABUSE IN GOSPORT AND PORTSMOUTH
Police executed a raid on the residence of 49-year-old Janet Robinson on Prideaux Brune Avenue in Gosport following an investigation that uncovered disturbing digital evidence. Authorities discovered chat logs on her computer that linked her to conversations with men involving child abuse and bestiality. The investigation was prompted by the police’s efforts to dismantle networks of online offenders, leading them directly to Robinson's home.During the raid, law enforcement officials also found a collection of highly disturbing images and videos stored on her devices. These included photographs and footage of a six-month-old baby being subjected to abuse, along with a significant number of indecent images of children categorized across various levels of severity—26 images classified as Level A, 24 at Level B, 12 at Level C, and one moving image deemed Level A. Additionally, police uncovered 33 explicit images depicting bestiality, further emphasizing her disturbing interests.
The court was informed that Robinson's online activities involved communicating with various men through platforms such as Skype and Yahoo. Prosecutor Matthew Lawson detailed that Robinson not only exchanged messages but also shared images; on one occasion, she lifted an image to show another individual during a chat with a pervert online. The investigation revealed that her online discussions included discussions about child sex abuse and acts of bestiality. Despite the nature of her interests, there is no evidence suggesting she personally abused children.
Robinson admitted that she engaged in explicit conversations with men and performed a sexual act with an animal, specifically noting her involvement in bestiality. Her communications also included advice on how to search for and view such illicit images covertly, using search engines that could avoid detection.
The police investigation began when authorities arrested another individual involved in a related online network. During questioning, Robinson claimed she was the user of a specific Skype account, which she identified when police arrived at her address on June 15 of the previous year. Her devices were subsequently examined, revealing the extensive collection of illegal images and videos.
In court, Robinson's defense team argued that she is a non-violent individual who has never been in trouble before. Her lawyer, Hannah Duncan, highlighted her remorse, stating she had suffered nausea from her feelings of guilt and had faced social ostracism, including the loss of her job and being barred from a local fitness group. A Facebook page actively highlighted her crimes, adding to her social alienation.
Robinson faced multiple charges, including possession of indecent images of children and extreme pornography; she pleaded guilty to 14 such charges and to one count of possession of extreme pornography. She was not convicted on charges related to intercourse with a dog, to which she pleaded not guilty, and for which the prosecution offered no evidence, resulting in a not guilty verdict.
The court heard that the majority of her illegal image collection dates from between January 2010 and June 2015, with the explicit video footage dating from April 2006 through June 2015. Judge Ian Pearson handed down a sentence that included a 16-month prison term suspended for two years for the child abuse images, and a four-month concurrent sentence, also suspended, for the bestiality images.
Robinson was also ordered to register as a sex offender for the next ten years, banned from having contact with anyone under 16, and prohibited from owning or caring for a dog for the same period. She is required to complete fifty days of rehabilitative activities, pay court costs of £350, and her digital devices will be confiscated and the illegal images destroyed.
The judge emphasized the severity and depravity of her crimes, noting that her actions represented a shocking deviation from societal norms and laws designed to protect vulnerable children and animals from abuse.
