HORDEN MAN JAILED FOR GROOMING TEENAGE GIRL ONLINE
Jamie Talbot, aged 38 and of Maritime Crescent, Horden, was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison at Durham Crown Court after admitting to attempting to engage in sexual communication with what he believed was a 14-year-old girl, and attempting to incite sexual activity with her.Over a period of six months, Talbot engaged in increasingly sexualised online messages with who he thought was a girl named 'Cleo Jefferson'.
He described her as "gorgeous" with a "beautiful, perfect smile" and expressed intentions to teach her how to kiss.
The court reviewed over 500 pages documenting his conversations, which depicted grooming behaviour and persistent sexual encouragement, including discussions about masturbation.
Prosecutor Ian West stated Talbot established a "line of communication" with the girl in August of the previous year, first via Facebook Messenger and later WhatsApp.
The messages involved grooming, with Talbot counseling her on online dangers while engaging in predatory exchanges.
He pleaded guilty to charges of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child and inciting a child to engage in sexual activity during a hearing on March 25.
The court noted Talbot's previous conviction for four counts of indecent assault as a boy on a younger girl, leading to a 20-month sentence in 2015.
The judge emphasized the chilling extent of grooming and the sophisticated nature of his conduct, which was found to be inconsistent with his earlier accounts of being threatened or blackmailed.
He was also subjected to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and registration as a sex offender indefinitely, with the judge warning him to seek support for his sexual interests in prison.
