TAXI DRIVER CHARGED WITH SEXUAL ASSAULTS ON IRISH WOMEN IN NEW YORK
A taxi driver named Jamie Oliveira has been arrested and formally charged in New York following allegations of two brutal sexual attacks against female Irish immigrants. The authorities reported that Oliveira was detained after police observed his vehicle acting suspiciously near bars in Woodside early in the morning of August 22.
The police officers, Sergeant Billy Hargrove and Detective Brian Kenzik from the Special Victim Squad, noticed Oliveira's Volkswagen Jetta around 3:30 am, a time coinciding with the reported attacks on several Irish women.
According to police, Oliveira appeared to be observing women carefully, which led to an inquiry about his occupation.
Upon confirming he was a cab driver and checking his vehicle details, including a ticket with the partial license plate T231 that matched descriptions from victims, police became increasingly convinced of his involvement.
Later, Oliveira was arrested at his residence in Queens after extensive investigations.
During questioning, he admitted to attacking the women on July 9 and August 6 this year, having picked them up in his cab.
One victim identified Oliveira from a police lineup and a photo array, further strengthening the case against him.
Oliveira has been charged with multiple serious crimes, including rape, attempted rape, kidnapping, sexual assault, sexual abuse, and unlawful imprisonment.
The case remains active as authorities continue their investigation into these violent crimes.
