Jamie Challoner from Powys Close, Queensferry, appeared before Mold Crown Court for sentencing on Thursday, March 19.
The 38-year-old man pleaded guilty to charges of assault by beating and assault causing actual bodily harm.
Prosecutor Joshua Gorst explained that Challoner had a longstanding relationship with Amy Ashbrook, dating back to their adolescence.
Although their relationship was initially happy and produced children, it later deteriorated, and Challoner began exhibiting controlling behavior.
On July 13 of the previous year, Challoner deliberately strangled Miss Ashbrook at her home in Shotton, causing her eyes to roll back into her head.
He also punched her multiple times, resulting in bleeding from her lips and nose, and spat at her.
While on police bail for the incident, Challoner continued to harass Miss Ashbrook through numerous texts and phone calls, which left her living in ongoing fear.
Challoner’s criminal history includes 19 convictions for 29 offenses, among them a 2018 threat in words intended to cause distress to Miss Ashbrook.
The judge, Rhys Rowlands, sentenced him to three and a half years in prison and imposed a five-year restraining order to keep him away from the victim.
