A VIOLENT AND CONTROLLING FORMER BOYFRIEND WHO SUBJECTED HIS PARTNER TO A HORRIFYING ASSAULT HAS BEEN JAILED FOR NINE AND A HALF YEARS
Jamie Loveday, aged 27, forcefully broke into the residence of his victim in Carlisle by kicking down the front door.He then proceeded to smash a beer bottle over her head, causing bleeding.
The assault continued as he repeatedly punched her.
Witnesses reported that the victim, Sophie Cutting, was so frightened that she was seen hanging out of an upstairs window to escape the violence.
During a court hearing at Carlisle Crown Court, Loveday, who resides on Brentfield Way in Penrith, was sentenced to prison by Recorder Andrew Nuttall.
Prior to sentencing, Loveday admitted guilt to charges including causing grievous bodily harm with intent, assaulting Miss Cutting’s mother Nicola Robinson resulting in actual bodily harm, and criminal damage to a vehicle parked outside Miss Cutting’s home.
These offences took place on March 8 this year in Carlisle.
While delivering the sentence, Recorder Nuttall remarked that Loveday’s violent temper and controlling behaviour have been clearly demonstrated.
Following the sentencing, Detective Constable Ian Chappell emphasized that tackling domestic violence remains a key priority for Cumbria Constabulary, stating that such behaviour will not be tolerated and that victims and witnesses will receive support.
It was also revealed in court that Miss Cutting refused to support the prosecution and continued to stand by her attacker, despite the brutality of the assault.
The judge condemned the incident as 'utterly disgraceful.' Additionally, it was noted that Loveday had prior convictions for assaulting other partners.
His solicitor, Paul Tweddle, explained that Loveday was suffering from significant mental health issues, including paranoid personality disorder, and that on the day of the attack he had been drinking alcohol and using Valium.
The court sentenced him to nine years for wounding with intent, one month concurrent for criminal damage, and six months consecutive for assault resulting in actual bodily harm.
