OFFENDER JAMIE JOHNSON SENTENCED IN LIVERPOOL FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
A woman has spoken out about her traumatic experience with Jamie Johnson, a 36-year-old man convicted of domestic violence.Johnson was sentenced to three years in July at Liverpool Crown Court for a vicious assault where he previously held his ex-partner in a flat for 24 hours, subjecting her to severe physical and emotional trauma.
Sarah, who wished to remain anonymous, described the ordeal as horrifying, stating, "It will take five minutes for him to find out where I live," highlighting her ongoing fear.
She provided images showing her injuries, including cuts, bruises, swelling, and fractured ribs, after the attack.
Sarah recounted that the violence intensifies when Johnson drinks, describing him as turning into an 'absolutely vile' man, and detailed the January incident where he held her for hours in a flat, preventing her from escaping until she managed to flee and call the police.
Johnson was arrested and remanded into custody until his court appearance.
The court's sentencing included a standard determinate sentence, which means Johnson will be released halfway through his jail term, with a conditional release date set for July 2025.
Despite this, Sarah expressed dissatisfaction, stating, "Considering what I went through, I’m not happy with it.
If someone intentionally strangles someone, they can potentially murder someone.
They [the authorities] are all safe at home but I’m not safe." Community support groups and police officials, including Detective Chief Inspector Andy McCourt, emphasized ongoing efforts to protect victims and prevent further abuse.
Johnson was also subject to a restraining order and faces a restricted chance of home detention release.
The story underscores the persistent dangers faced by victims of domestic violence and the ongoing need for robust protective measures.
