JAMIE COWIE SENTENCED IN PETERHEAD FOR DOMESTIC INCIDENT

A local man named Jamie Cowie has been sentenced in Peterhead following an incident involving aggressive behavior towards his former partner. The 41-year-old was fined nearly £3,000 after a court trial on Thursday. The case centered on Cowie shouting and attempting to force his way into his ex-partner's home after she inquired about a pair of toddler's trainers. Testifying behind a protective screen, the woman explained that the contact was related to their child's visit on October 1 last year. She recounted that Cowie became 'set off' after asking about the trainers, which led to a heated and aggressive altercation during which he moved towards her while holding their child. She described feeling 'shaking' and noted bruises on her arms from the incident, stating, 'All I did was ask where the trainers were. He had no right to come through my front door. He has no right to grab my son when he’s in my arms.' During the trial, Cowie offered his version of events, claiming he was punched and scratched but chose not to report it to police. Video footage from a doorbell camera was presented in court, capturing Cowie raising his voice and calling the woman an 'a***hole.' In his testimony, Cowie admitted to being angry, saying, 'There’s no denying I’m a little bit angry there,' and acknowledged raising his voice but insisted that she was attacking him. Additionally, Cowie was sentenced for breaching bail conditions just days later, on October 8, when he called his ex-partner to say she would never hear his voice again, which she found concerning. Cowie claimed these calls were not threats but were related to their ongoing child access issues. The sheriff, Craig Findlater, ordered Cowie to pay a fine of £2,075 for the initial incident and another £690 for breaching bail. He also imposed a three-year non-harassment order prohibiting Cowie from contacting his ex-partner directly unless through a third party regarding their child.
