FORMER POLICE OFFICER ADMITS INDECENT IMAGES CHARGES
Jamie Bunting, a 26-year-old former police officer and a prominent figure within the North Worcestershire Volunteer Police Cadets, has admitted to serious charges related to the creation of indecent images of children.The admission was made during proceedings at Telford Magistrates Court, where Bunting pleaded guilty to three separate counts involving the production of such illicit material.
Prior to his arrest and charges, Bunting had resigned from West Mercia Police earlier this year.
His police career was based at Kidderminster Police Station, a key location within Worcestershire.
The investigation into his activities was initiated by West Mercia Police’s specialised online child sexual exploitation team in September 2023.
The inquiry focused on non-contact offences, which encompass activities such as downloading illegal images from the internet, receiving such content via social media platforms, or opening emails containing illicit material.
Despite the gravity of the charges, authorities have emphasised that their safeguarding measures for volunteer police cadets remain intact and uncompromised.
The case underscores the critical importance of vigilance and safeguarding protocols within volunteer organizations, especially those involving youth programs.
In sentencing, Bunting received a ten-month prison term, which was suspended for two years.
The court specifically addressed a category A image, the most severe classification, highlighting the seriousness of the offence.
