2009: KIDDERMINSTER MAN WHO BATTERED GIRLFRIEND JAILED
James Taylor, a resident of Kidderminster, was involved in a violent incident involving his girlfriend, Charlotte Jones, after she refused to give him money for drugs.Taylor pushed Jones into a bathtub and turned on the tap, later hitting her head against the side of the bath three times and striking her with an unsecured cabinet.
Prosecutor Paul Whitfield highlighted that Taylor also committed two breaches of a non-molestation order granted by a county court judge.
The court heard that Judge Toby Hooper QC sentenced Taylor to 48 weeks in prison, describing the event as a "terrifying ordeal" for the victim.
The 25-year-old defendant, now living on Hurcott Road, had admitted to charges including assault causing actual bodily harm, possession of a weapon, threatening behavior, and violation of a court order.
The assault occurred on April 13 when Miss Jones refused to give Taylor money for cannabis.
She suffered physical injuries such as a cut to her knee and ear, along with a neck injury, Worcester Crown Court was told.
As Taylor left, he threw a shower pole at her.
Jones obtained a court order on April 22, but on May 19, Taylor contacted her to discuss the order.
He was arrested following a police struggle but again breached the court order while on bail, according to Mr.
Whitfield.
Taylor visited their property requesting photos of their children; when Jones tried to close the door, her father engaged in conversation with Taylor in the porch.
Upon hearing police sirens, Taylor left but threatened Jones’s father with a knife three times.
He has a significant criminal history, with 72 prior offences including robbery, violence, dishonesty, and weapon possession.
Defense attorney Adam Western stated that during his time in custody, Taylor had undergone drug detoxification.
He admitted to causing upset to his partner but accepted that their three-year relationship had come to an end.
