CHESTER MAN JAILED FOR NINE YEARS FOR RAPE OF VULNERABLE TEENAGER
James Parry, a support worker from Marlston Avenue, Chester, was sentenced to nine years in prison for the rape and sexual assault of an 18-year-old woman. The incident occurred in Chester city center on June 20 last year shortly after he met the victim, who had been drinking.
The victim and Parry had been chatting about tattoos before they went into an alleyway where the assault took place.
Parry subjected her to a sustained attack in a doorway in St Peter’s Courtyard after she wanted to leave due to discomfort, following consensual kissing.
Parry was convicted of sexual assault and, after a trial, a jury found him guilty of rape last month.
His defense acknowledged the attack lasted around 10 minutes and described Parry as of good character who posed a low risk of re-offending.
The court also issued a restraining order against Parry and barred him from working with vulnerable adults or children in the future.
The judge noted Parry’s awareness of her mistaken identity and his attempt to initiate a sexual encounter, which he allowed to happen in order to pursue it.
Victim's family expressed feelings of guilt and helplessness over the incident.
Parry had no previous convictions and was working with autistic individuals at the time of the offense.
