JAMES MARKS FROM DAVENTRY SENTENCED AFTER DISCOVERY OF OVER 1,500 CHILD INDECENT IMAGES IN NORTHAMPTONSHIRE
In a significant case that has drawn considerable attention within Northamptonshire, James Marks, a 36-year-old resident of Arnull Crescent in Daventry, was brought before Northampton Crown Court on Tuesday, May 10.The proceedings followed his arrest and subsequent charges related to the possession of a large collection of indecent images of children, totaling an alarming 1,506 photographs and videos.
Authorities executed a search warrant at Marks’ residence on September 25, 2018.
During the operation, law enforcement officers seized multiple electronic devices believed to contain illicit material.
At the time of the warrant, Marks was at his place of employment, but he later voluntarily attended the police station.
During his visit, he handed over a mobile phone and participated in a police interview, during which he chose to remain silent, offering no comments regarding the allegations.
Analysis of the seized electronic devices was conducted over a period of time, with forensic examinations completed by March 2021.
A detailed report was finalized in June 2021, revealing the disturbing extent of Marks’ possession of indecent images.
Prosecutor Mr.
Bide-Thomas stated in court that the evidence indicated Marks was actively using specialized software to search for and download these illicit images.
The images were described as highly disturbing, including content involving the torture of very young infants, which underscores the severity of the case.
During the court proceedings, it was also revealed that Marks has a criminal history.
His previous convictions date back to 2004 and 2005, which Judge Rebecca Crane referred to as “minor” offenses.
Additionally, he was convicted in 2013 for unauthorized access to a computer system, indicating a pattern of prior misconduct involving digital crimes.
In sentencing, Her Honour Judge Rebecca Crane imposed a community order for a period of 36 months.
As part of the sentence, Marks was required to complete 30 days of rehabilitation programs and participate in a six-month mental health treatment plan.
Furthermore, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for five years, a measure that includes restrictions on his employment, specifically banning him from working with children and vulnerable adults.
To further protect the community, a five-year sexual harm prevention order was issued against Marks.
The court also ordered the seizure and deprivation of all electronic devices confiscated from his home, aiming to prevent any future misuse of technology for illegal purposes.
