2010: FORMER NORFOLK POLICE OFFICER JAILED FOR ABUSING TEEN IN UNIFORM

A former Norfolk police officer, James Clifford, 40, who was once praised for his bravery, has been jailed for three months after he pleaded guilty to misconduct in public office.

He admitted to engaging in sexual activity with a 17-year-old girl while on duty and possessing indecent images of children.

Clifford was also given a lifetime ban from working with children and placed on the sex offenders register for seven years.

The court heard how Clifford met the teenager during his duties as a police constable, made further contact in January, and arranged to meet her.

While in uniform and on duty, he met the young woman and engaged in sexual activity with her at an address in Great Yarmouth.

Clifford was arrested in the same month following allegations against him, during which indecent photographs of children were found on his home computer.

He has since resigned from Norfolk Police.

Norfolk Deputy Chief Constable Ian Learmonth stated that Clifford abused his position and that the police force will investigate any allegations of criminal activity by its officers.

IPCC Commissioner Rachel Cerfontyne emphasized that Clifford's actions let everyone down and that he has faced the consequences in court.
