JAMES ARCHER FROM BEXLEYHEATH AND ERITH SCHOOL ART TEACHERS JAILED FOR SEX OFFENCES IN SOUTH-EAST LONDON

In a disturbing case that has shocked the local community, two art teachers from Erith comprehensive school in south-east London have been sentenced to prison for their involvement in sexual offences against male pupils. The incident, which came to light in July 1994, led to the conviction of Mervyn Douglas and James Archer, both of whom faced serious charges related to indecency and abuse.

At Woolwich Crown Court, the court proceedings revealed that Mervyn Douglas, aged 44, received a prison sentence of 21 months. His colleague, James Archer, aged 36, was sentenced to nine months behind bars. The court heard that the police had acted swiftly following a discovery made at Douglas’s residence. His cleaner uncovered a collection of indecent photographs and a video, which served as crucial evidence in the case.
