JAMAE BOYD FROM FORFAR SENTENCED FOR DOMESTIC ABUSE AND ANIMAL CRUELTY IN SCOTLAND
A man from Forfar has been formally sentenced after a lengthy and disturbing campaign of domestic abuse that lasted over five and a half years. The case revealed a pattern of violent and abusive behavior directed towards his partner, which included physical assaults, emotional torment, and even cruelty towards animals. The severity and duration of his actions prompted the court to impose strict measures to protect his victims and prevent further harm.Jamae Boyd, aged 34, was found guilty of a series of offences that spanned from early 2018 to September 2023. During this period, he engaged in aggressive and threatening behavior, which included throwing objects such as keys and a milk bottle at his partner. Notably, he also threw a tablet device that struck and injured a three-year-old girl, an incident that added a particularly serious dimension to his criminal record. The court heard that Boyd’s actions were not limited to verbal abuse but extended to physical violence and intimidation.
At a previous hearing, Boyd admitted to threatening and abusive conduct towards his partner in Forfar between January 2018 and March 2019. During this time, he exhibited aggressive outbursts, shouting, swearing, and making racial and abusive comments. He repeatedly demanded that she not wear certain clothing or makeup, accused her of infidelity, and issued threats of violence. Additionally, Boyd threatened to harm himself, further complicating the situation. His refusal to take responsibility for their child’s care left the woman unable to work, and he systematically isolated her from her friends and family. He also disputed the paternity of their child and persistently demanded to know her whereabouts, creating an environment of constant fear and control.
The abusive behavior did not cease after March 2019. From April 2019 through September 2023, Boyd continued his pattern of harassment and violence, which was prosecuted separately under the Domestic Abuse Scotland Act 2018. During this period, he made inappropriate sexual comments, threw a bottle of milk that struck the woman, pushed her against a door, and stole money from her business. His visits to her home and workplace were uninvited, and he refused to leave when asked. Boyd also called her during the night, demanding she collect their child, only to refuse to hand the child over. His malicious conduct extended to making false allegations about her to police and her employers, as well as sending abusive and sexually inappropriate messages.
One of the most disturbing incidents involved Boyd seizing a dog and throwing it at a door, then over concrete, which resulted in a leg injury to the animal. He repeatedly harassed the woman for sex and money, even going as far as removing funds from her bank account. His aggressive behavior culminated in him throwing keys at her, hitting her on the body, and following her in her car during a period of ongoing harassment.
In court, Boyd admitted to additional charges, including breaching bail conditions and culpably and recklessly throwing a tablet that injured the young girl. The sentencing was deferred initially to allow Boyd to meet with social workers, but the court ultimately imposed a series of penalties. Sheriff Jillian Martin-Brown sentenced him to 180 hours of unpaid community work and placed him under supervision for one year. Furthermore, she issued non-harassment orders protecting both his adult and child victims, each valid for two years. The court also noted that Boyd’s previous criminal record primarily consisted of road traffic offences, including a notable incident last May when police pursued him through Kirriemuir for speeding in a disqualified vehicle before crashing into a wall.
Solicitor Billy Rennie commented on Boyd’s progress, stating, “He’s making good progress on his current community payback order.” The case underscores the ongoing issues of domestic abuse and animal cruelty, highlighting the importance of legal measures to protect victims and hold offenders accountable in Scotland.
