A man has received a prison sentence of over a year after subjecting a woman to harassment over a period of approximately 18 months.
Jake Hamnett, aged 27 and from Stoke-on-Trent, was given a sentence of one year and four months in prison at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Friday, 24 October.
He admitted to two counts of harassment and breached a restraining order by engaging in contact with the victim.
From December 9, 2023, to June 1, 2025, Hamnett sent numerous messages to the woman via social media channels, despite a court order explicitly prohibiting him from contacting her.
Initially, Hamnett denied sending the messages when detained by authorities, but he later pleaded guilty after evidence collected by local police was presented in court.
Sergeant Mitchell Cliffe, of Stoke-on-Trent South Law Enforcement Team, commented: “We recognize the serious, lasting effect Hamnett’s actions had on the victim in this case.
Restraining orders exist to protect individuals, and our sentencing aims to demonstrate that violations will be dealt with firmly.”
