JACK LOGAN FROM TULLIBODY ESCAPES JAIL AFTER BRUTAL ATTACK ON TEENAGERS IN TULLIBODY

A man from Sauchie, identified as Jack Logan, has narrowly avoided a prison sentence after being convicted of assaulting two teenage boys in Tullibody. The incident, which took place on the evening of Saturday, April 17, last year, has drawn significant attention due to Logan's described attitude towards violence, which a sheriff characterized as 'abhorrent.'

According to the court proceedings, Logan, aged 22 at the time, was involved in an altercation with two boys aged 15 and 17 on Ochil Street, as they were returning from a takeaway. The prosecutor, Rachel Hill, detailed that the confrontation began after a brief exchange about their ages. It was during this exchange that Logan headbutted the younger boy, resulting in swelling and a bleeding lip. The older boy intervened, attempting to prevent further harm, but Logan responded with violence, striking him twice on the head with a bottle and a torch he was carrying.

The bottle shattered upon impact, causing the 17-year-old to stumble and fall forward onto the ground. As the teenager lay injured, Logan made movements towards him, but was stopped by the 15-year-old, who managed to intervene. Logan then fled the scene, leaving behind a scene of chaos. The injured 17-year-old, after removing glass from his hair, discovered he had sustained a bruised arm and facial cuts, including a small scar above his eyebrow. Fortunately, he did not require medical treatment. The younger boy, meanwhile, did not sustain any injuries severe enough to warrant medical attention.

Logan was arrested two days after the incident. During the court hearing at Falkirk Sheriff Court on Thursday, October 27, Logan admitted to the assaults. His solicitor, Robert Smith, explained that the incident was the result of an 'altercation' with the two boys. A social enquiry report prepared for the case revealed that Logan exhibited a 'disturbing attitude to violence.'

Sheriff Christopher Shead addressed the court, noting that Logan was 'protected' from imprisonment due to recent changes introduced in 2021 by the Scottish Sentencing Council, which aim to prevent jail sentences for offenders aged 18 to 24 in most cases. Instead of incarceration, the sheriff sentenced Logan to two years of social work supervision and ordered him to complete 180 hours of unpaid community service. The sheriff emphasized the seriousness of the offences, stating, 'A few years ago you'd have simply been receiving a custodial sentence.'

He further explained that the purpose of the supervision was to confront and address Logan's 'abhorrent attitudes to violence,' highlighting the importance of rehabilitation over punishment in this case.
