NICHOLAS BEEDIE FROM ALLOA AND TULLIBODY SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES NEAR PRIMARY SCHOOLS
In a case that has shocked the communities of Alloa and Tullibody, teenager Nicholas Beedie has been sentenced to a significant period of detention following his conviction for serious sexual offenses involving young boys.The incidents took place in Clackmannanshire, with Beedie, then aged 15, committing the assaults at a house and within the grounds of a primary school in Tullibody.
Beedie, now 16, was found guilty of raping two boys aged nine and seven.
The crimes occurred over a span of several months, specifically between June and October of the previous year.
The case was brought before the High Court in Edinburgh last month, where Beedie appeared to face justice for his actions.
During the proceedings, the court was informed that Beedie had entered a guilty plea at the earliest opportunity, a factor that the judge, Lord Bannatyne, acknowledged in his sentencing remarks.
The court had initially deferred sentencing to allow for the preparation of reports assessing Beedie’s character and background.
Defense lawyer Lorenzo Alonzi addressed the court, emphasizing that Beedie had expressed remorse for his conduct.
He explained that his client had confided in a social worker, revealing regret for the offenses.
Alonzi urged the judge to consider a non-custodial sentence, highlighting Beedie’s apparent immaturity and the remorse he had shown.
However, Lord Bannatyne stated that the gravity of the offenses and the need to protect the public, especially children, necessitated a custodial sentence.
The judge noted that Beedie’s early guilty plea had spared the victims from the trauma of testifying in court, which was a mitigating factor.
Despite this, Lord Bannatyne emphasized the danger Beedie posed to society, particularly to children, and concluded that only a custodial sentence could serve the interests of justice and public safety.
As a result, Beedie was ordered to be detained in a young offenders institution for three years.
It was also reported that since his release, Beedie has moved very close to a nursery and a school in Tullibody, raising concerns about ongoing safety and supervision in the community.
