JABRAN AKRAM FROM FARTOWN ORDERED TO PAY OVER £5,500 AFTER SEX AND VEHICLE OFFENCES
In a recent development in a high-profile case originating from Fartown, Jabran Akram, a 27-year-old man, has been subjected to a confiscation order amounting to more than £5,500 following his conviction on multiple serious charges. The proceedings took place at Bradford Crown Court, where the court mandated that Akram, who is currently serving a 39-month prison sentence, must surrender assets equivalent to the criminal gains he benefited from.Akram’s legal troubles began when he was sentenced last November after admitting to engaging in sexual activity with a minor. The incident involved a teenage girl, and during the court hearing, it was revealed that Akram had given her alcohol and made inappropriate comments, telling her she was beautiful and sexy before engaging in sexual acts with her. The court heard that although the incident occurred in February of the previous year, police did not trace Akram until January 2010.
In addition to the sexual offence, Akram faced charges related to vehicle theft and handling stolen property. He was found to have been involved with a stolen Audi A3 valued at around £20,000, along with parts from a Ford Fiesta. These offences resulted in concurrent prison sentences, further complicating his legal situation.
During the recent hearing, Recorder Anthony Hawks ordered Akram to pay a total of £5,690, representing the proceeds he gained from his criminal conduct. The court established that Akram had benefited approximately £23,850 from his vehicle-related offences and that he had available assets matching the confiscation order. Failure to comply with this order would result in an additional three months of imprisonment.
It was also noted that Akram’s initial charges included rape, but he ultimately pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of sexual activity with a child on the day of his trial in September. The case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement and the courts to address and penalize criminal conduct, especially involving minors and vehicle thefts, in the Bradford area and specifically in Fartown.
