BALLYMENA MAN (54) JAILED FOR FATHERING GIRL’S CHILD AMID PAST ROMANIA CONVICTIONS
Ioan Pasula, aged 54, has been sentenced for sexual crimes relating to a young girl.He was jailed for a term of three years, with the judge specifying that he will serve half in prison and the other half on supervised license.
Furthermore, Pasula has been ordered to register as a sex offender for life and was issued a 10-year sexual offences prevention order.
Court records revealed that DNA analysis proved Pasula was 136,000 times more likely than any other individual to be the father of a child born to the young girl, who had not cooperated with police or prosecution.
Pasula had previously admitted to engaging in sexual activity involving penetration with a minor aged 13-16 sometime between June 2020 and June 2021.
The court dismissed the girl’s claim that a 19-year-old man, now abroad, was the father, and instead strongly indicated Pasula was responsible.
The teenager’s mother and her child were taken into care, and police traced Pasula after overhearing the girl in a foster home discussing sexual conversations.
Pasula refused to answer further questions during police interviews, even with DNA evidence presented.
It was also disclosed that Pasula had a prior conviction in Romania in 1999, for offenses involving an 11-year-old girl, with a sentence of six years for acts described as "sexual perversion" against a minor.
The judge criticized Pasula’s failure to recognize his offending as abuse, emphasizing the ongoing risk he poses.
