IBRAHIMA KRUBALLY AND IBRAHIM KONE SENTENCED IN LEEDS FOR SEXUAL ASSAULTS ON VISITING WOMEN
Two men have been formally sentenced to prison after being found guilty of multiple serious sexual offences committed against two women who were visiting Leeds for a night out. The incident, which took place in the early hours of Saturday, 3 July 2021, has drawn significant attention from law enforcement and the local community alike.Ibrahima Krubally, aged 21 and residing on Gledhow Road, was handed a 12-year prison term at Leeds Crown Court on Friday. His conviction includes three counts of rape and one count of sexual assault by penetration. The severity of his crimes and the length of his sentence reflect the gravity of the offences and the impact on the victims.
Meanwhile, Ibrahim Kone, aged 24 and living on Moor Crescent Chase, received an eight-year prison sentence after being convicted of a single count of rape. His involvement in the assault was also deemed serious, and his conviction underscores the criminal justice system’s commitment to addressing such heinous acts.
Detective Constable Samantha Wilson, who was involved in the investigation, emphasized that the offenders inflicted “significant harm” on the victims. She expressed her gratitude towards the victims, acknowledging their bravery in coming forward and their courage in providing evidence during the court proceedings. “I would like to thank the victims in this case, who have shown such bravery in coming forward and have been commended for their courage in giving evidence against both defendants in court,” she stated.
The court heard that the assaults occurred during the early hours of a Saturday morning, as the victims were out in Leeds enjoying their night. The investigation revealed that Kone approached the women outside a fast-food restaurant, engaged them in conversation, and then invited them to a house party. The women accepted the invitation and traveled to a residence in the Harehills area, where they met both Kone and Krubally. Subsequently, both victims were subjected to sexual assaults by the two men.
Detective Inspector Richard James of Leeds District CID described the investigation as “long and complex,” beginning in 2021. He highlighted the challenges faced, particularly noting that Krubally had to be extradited from Germany after a warrant was issued for his arrest when he failed to appear at a previous court hearing. Inspector James explained that the delay in justice was partly due to Krubally’s departure from the country during ongoing legal proceedings.
He further stated that the case exemplifies the efforts made by law enforcement agencies to collaborate internationally, ensuring that offenders cannot evade justice by fleeing abroad. The case’s successful resolution and the resulting convictions aim to bring closure to the victims and serve as a reassurance to the Leeds community that such crimes are taken seriously and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
