A man from Sudan, with no fixed address, has been sentenced to seven and a half years in prison for the sexual assault of another man in Liverpool city centre.

Ibrahim Momen, aged 30, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court on Friday, 23 January, after being convicted of rape.

The incident took place in the early hours of Sunday, 29 June 2025, near Liverpool Cathedral on St James’ Mount, when a man in his 20s was assaulted.

Following a thorough investigation, Momen was apprehended and charged with the offence.

Today, the court sentenced him to seven and a half years in prison and issued a restraining order.

Detective Constable Chris Condliff, who led the case, stated: “Despite the substantial evidence against him, Momen denied the charges, forcing the victim into a lengthy trial process.

I want to acknowledge the bravery and dignity demonstrated by the victim during this ordeal.

“We are dedicated to safeguarding all victims of sexual crimes, regardless of gender, and ensure they receive support from trained officers and advocates throughout the process.

“Our staff are prepared to handle reports compassionately and professionally, working alongside partner agencies like Victim Care Support Service and RASA to assist victims and ensure offenders are brought to justice.
