IAN TAYLOR FROM BEWSEY SENTENCED TO NINE YEARS FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF SEVEN-YEAR-OLD VICTIM IN WARRINGTON

In a deeply troubling case that has shocked the local community, Ian Taylor, a resident of Bewsey, was sentenced to nine years in prison at Warrington Crown Court for heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse of a young girl. The victim, a seven-year-old girl, was subjected to a series of disturbing acts by Taylor, who was entrusted with her care during a period of approximately seven months.

Her mother, who has chosen to remain anonymous to protect her child's identity, expressed her heartbreak and devastation upon learning of the abuse. She recounted the moment she discovered her daughter had been groomed and assaulted by someone she once believed to be trustworthy. The mother described the revelation as an ordeal that she would never fully come to terms with, emphasizing the pain of realizing that her child's innocence had been so profoundly violated.

Ian Taylor, aged 56, resided on Alpass Avenue in Bewsey. The court proceedings revealed that Taylor was asked to look after the victim and her siblings, but instead of fulfilling his responsibilities, he targeted the young girl. Evidence presented during the trial detailed how Taylor would encourage the other children to play outside while he molested the victim in private. The young girl confided to police that Taylor had climbed into her bed and, on another occasion, attempted to persuade her to perform a sexual act. He also made vicious threats to silence her, warning her that if she told anyone about what had happened, she would be separated from her family.

Prosecutor Matthew Corbett-Jones outlined the severity of the case, stating, “The defendant told the victim that if she was to tell anyone what had happened she would be parted from her family.” The victim, who continues to suffer from nightmares and emotional distress, finally found the courage to disclose her ordeal after confiding in a friend. Her bravery has brought her justice, but the scars of her trauma remain.

During the trial, Taylor maintained his innocence, with his defense lawyer, John Banasko, asserting that Taylor still denies the allegations and believes that “he is innocent and in time that will prevail.” However, the jury found Taylor guilty of three counts of sexual assault of a child under 13 and two counts of causing or inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity.

Judge Raj Shetty did not hold back in his sentencing remarks, condemning Taylor’s “disgusting behaviour.” He stated, “You were supposed to be looking after her. You were there to make sure she was safe but instead of looking after her you sexually abused her. She is haunted by what has happened. She cannot sleep and this is ongoing. She is still scared of what you might do to her.”

As Taylor was led away to serve his sentence, he showed no remorse, shaking his head in denial while some members of his family watched silently. The community and law enforcement officials alike expressed their concern and disappointment. Detective Charlotte Higgins commented, “Taylor was in a position of trust and in this case he abused that position of trust for his own sexual gratification. His behaviour was totally unacceptable and showed a complete lack of respect for the child he was meant to be caring for.”

She further emphasized the importance of justice, stating, “Incidents of this nature are extremely distressing for the victim and all those involved. We hope that the sentence handed down to Taylor gives him the time to reflect upon his actions. Cheshire Police is committed to tackling this type of crime and will do all we can to ensure that those who commit these offences are caught and punished.”
