EASTWOOD SEX OFFENDER IAN LINLEY SENTENCED TO 24 YEARS FOR CHILD RAPE IN NOTTINGHAMSHIRE

In August 2022, a disturbing case involving a convicted child rapist culminated in a significant prison sentence. Ian Linley, aged 46 and formerly residing in Eastwood, was sentenced to 24 years behind bars after a lengthy investigation into his heinous crimes. The case came to light when his now adult victim courageously reported years of physical and sexual abuse to the authorities, prompting a thorough investigation by Nottinghamshire Police’s Public Protection department.

Detectives swiftly initiated a formal inquiry, which led to Linley's arrest and questioning. During interrogation, Linley initially denied all allegations, dismissing the victim’s claims as fabrications. However, the investigation uncovered compelling evidence, including DNA analysis and video recordings, which contradicted his denials. Confronted with this damning evidence, Linley eventually pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual activity with a child and one count of making indecent photographs of a child.

Despite his plea, Linley faced additional charges, which he denied. Nevertheless, a jury at Nottingham Crown Court found him guilty on six counts, including rape, child cruelty, and causing a child to observe a sexual act. The verdict was delivered on a Thursday, marking a significant moment in the pursuit of justice for the victim.

Following the conviction, Linley was immediately sentenced. The court emphasized that he would not be eligible for release until it is determined that he no longer poses a threat to society. Furthermore, he will remain on licence for the remainder of his life, which means he can be recalled to prison at any time if deemed necessary for public safety.
