DANIEL HOLT, FORMER DRAMA SCHOOL BOSS IN EASTWOOD, JAILED FOR SEX OFFENCES
In July 2009, Daniel Holt, aged 42, the former director of the Whitehall Performing Arts School in Eastwood, was sentenced to a one-year prison term after being convicted of multiple sexual offences against three teenage girls.Holt, who resigned from his position at the school following his 2007 arrest, was found guilty of four counts of indecent assault and two counts of sexual assault during an earlier trial. The court heard that Holt was a persistent offender who preyed on his victims over several years, with Basildon Crown Court describing his behavior as ongoing and troubling.
Judge Ian Graham addressed the court, stating: “The offences themselves were not the most serious, usually involving touching over clothing, which were surrounded by the accompaniment of lewd suggestions. But what makes this case serious is the level of persistence. There were three girls who complained, and the evidence shows this behaviour was going on over a number of years.”
The judge ordered Holt to be on the Sex Offenders Register for ten years.
The investigation was led by Detective Constable Esther Waldie from the Rayleigh Child Abuse Investigation Unit. She explained, “It has been a very stressful time for the girls. They have demonstrated great courage by coming forward and giving evidence, and their honesty has been rewarded by the guilty verdicts on all six counts.”
Outside the court, the mother of one of the victims—who is legally protected—expressed her fury at the sentence, saying: “It’s absolutely disgusting, 12 months is not justice. The defence said he had suffered over the past two years waiting for trial, but what about the people who had to suffer because of what he did?”
When approached for comment, Whitehall School, based at Eastwood School, declined to speak, and no representatives from the school returned calls regarding the case.
