HORRIFIC CRIME BY IAN JONES IN HULL AND HORNSEA: PERVERTED STEPFATHER'S SHOCKING REVELATIONS

In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the communities of Hornsea and Hull, Ian Jones, a man now residing in Hull, has been convicted of heinous crimes involving his stepdaughter. The offences date back to his time living in Hornsea, where he committed acts that have left a lasting scar on the victim and her family.

In April 2008, Jones was sentenced to prison after being found guilty of secretly filming his stepdaughter in her bedroom. The court heard that Jones, then 42 years old and living at Graingers Road in Hornsea, drilled a small hole in the wall of the girl’s room within their family bungalow. Through this clandestine act, he installed a hidden camera that recorded her in her most private moments, including when she was naked. The discovery of his disturbing activities came only when his wife, during routine cleaning, uncovered the camera equipment stored in the loft of their home.

The victim, who is now 21 years old and works as a stores accountant in the Royal Navy, chose to waive her right to anonymity to shed light on the trauma she endured. She revealed her ongoing discomfort in her own bedroom, stating, “He was the closest thing I had to a dad, I trusted him, I looked up to him and all the time he was doing that. I still can’t believe he could have done it. When I found out what had happened I was in total shock. I’ve never slept in that room since. I just don’t feel comfortable in there anymore.”

Expressing her desire to move past the ordeal, she added, “The Navy has been really good, giving me counselling. I’m about to go away again and I just want to put it behind me.” Her mother, aged 52 and currently undergoing divorce proceedings, recounted her own shock upon discovering the extent of her husband's betrayal. She explained that she had previously noticed a small hole in the wall overlooking her daughter’s bed but dismissed it as a DIY mistake until the full truth emerged.

She described the devastating impact of Jones’s actions, saying, “The whole thing has ripped the family apart. I thought he was the nicest person. He would do anything for anyone. I had no idea what he was really like. I feel used and abused. He used me to hide behind so he could get to my daughter. It’s hard to believe I was so gullible. I’m disgusted by it. He is an evil man.”

Further compounding his criminal record, Jones was found to have downloaded nearly 400 indecent images of children from the internet, which he copied onto 22 CDs stored in a caravan outside his residence. The court heard that some of these images depicted children as young as two years old. He was also charged with distributing such images online.

Judge Michael Mettyear, the Honorary Recorder of Hull and the East Riding, sentenced Jones to 27 months in prison, with half of the sentence suspended. Describing him as a “depraved” individual, the judge condemned his conduct, stating, “I have to sentence you for a total of 11 counts which represent absolutely disgusting and depraved conduct by you. These are offences showing vile images of children being exploited by grown-ups. The fact there are people out there like you prepared to look at them makes it worthwhile for the exploiters to continue. You ought to be thoroughly ashamed of yourself. She (Nikki) was in a situation where she could expect privacy in her own room. Doing that shows the depth of your depravity. It is wholly reprehensible conduct.”

This case has left a community in shock, highlighting the disturbing extent of Jones’s criminal activities and the profound impact on his victims and their families.
