ON-THE-RUN RAPIST IAN BUTTERWORTH CAPTURED IN ISLE OF WIGHT

CONVICTED rapist Ian Butterworth, who has been on the run since failing to turn up for his trial on August 6, has been found on the Isle of Wight.

The 49-year-old former Harpenden man, who has been sentenced in his absence to 13-and-a-half years in prison, was arrested on the island yesterday.

Butterworth, who moved from Masefield Road, Harpenden to Potters Bar after his arrest last year, was convicted at Luton Crown Court of numerous sexual offences, including rape, against a young girl.

Police are not able to confirm reports that he has received hospital treatment on the island.
