HARPENDEN MAN JAILED FOR VIOLENT ATTACK ON EX-PARTNER
A domestic abuser was jailed for 14 years for a “horrific, spiteful and frenzied attack” on his ex-partner in Harpenden.Sabri Naeem, 34, of Priory Road, approached his former girlfriend on Milton Road, punching and kicking her to the ground at 2am on July 1, 2018.
He then hit her over the head with a full bottle of wine, before punching her repeatedly in the eye whilst wearing a glove with wire wrapped around it.
She sustained permanent damage to one of her eyes and was left with a broken wrist, as Naeem fled the scene and became a wanted person.
An officer tracked him down to a flat in East London where he was arrested and found to be in possession of suspected cocaine some weeks later.
He appeared at St Albans Crown Court on 29 March this year and was found guilty of grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of a Class A drug.
During the hearing, the judge highlighted the cruelty of Naeem’s actions and the serious impact on the victim.
Detective constable Laura Bassett from Hertfordshire Constabulary’s Domestic Abuse Investigation & Safeguarding Unit said: “I am pleased that we have secured this conviction and that Naeem will serve a substantial sentence to reflect the severity of his crimes.
His brutal attack left the victim with permanent injuries and she showed great bravery throughout the investigation.
We remain committed to taking domestic abuse seriously and supporting victims.”
