HIGHLAND MAN RECEIVES UNPAID WORK FOR ASSAULTING PARTNER AT HIGHLAND AUCTION
A man who assaulted his partner by kicking her in the stomach during an event at Daviot Farm has been sentenced to community service. Iain MacDonald, aged 61, was found to have behaved in an aggressive manner, causing the victim to fall and then shouting and swearing at her, Inverness Sheriff Court was told. The incident occurred on December 7, 2019, at a Highland auction party, where MacDonald had been drinking and had left his partner alone for a period. When the woman tried to greet him outside after noticing his anger, MacDonald pushed past her and kicked her in the stomach. During the court hearing, the fiscal depute described the case as "a particularly nasty offence," and MacDonald admitted to threatening and abusive behavior. The sheriff ordered him to perform 135 hours of unpaid community work and stay away from his former partner for a year. The judge also issued a non-harassment order preventing him from contacting her for one year. MacDonald expressed remorse through his solicitor, but the sheriff emphasized that he did not believe money could buy his way out of the consequences.
