HUGH WILSON FROM AYR CAUGHT SENDING INDECENT MESSAGES TO GIRL HE THOUGHT WAS 14 IN AYR
In April 2021, Hugh Wilson, a 60-year-old resident of Ayr, found himself at the center of a serious criminal case involving inappropriate online communications. Wilson was accused of sending explicit and sexual messages over an 11-day period to an individual he believed to be a 14-year-old girl named ‘Coral’.However, the individual Wilson was communicating with was not a minor but an adult, which significantly altered the nature of the case once the truth was uncovered. The messages, which Wilson sent via a messaging application, contained content of a sexual and incident-related nature. These messages were sent from a property in Ayr and other locations, indicating that Wilson was actively engaging in this conduct over multiple occasions.
Wilson’s actions came to light when authorities traced the messages and identified the recipient as an adult, leading to his subsequent arrest. The case was brought before Ayr Sheriff Court, where Wilson appeared on Tuesday, April 27. During the proceedings, it was revealed that Wilson had previously pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing on January 27 to charges of sending sexual communications intended to obtain sexual gratification and to cause humiliation, alarm, or distress to the recipient.
The offences spanned from September 12, 2019, to September 23, 2019, covering multiple instances at a property in Ayr and other unspecified locations. The court case has been further deferred to a later date next month, with the case scheduled to be heard before Sheriff Mhari Mactaggart. The legal process continues as Wilson awaits the final determination of his case, which highlights the ongoing concerns about online safety and the risks posed by individuals engaging in such conduct under the guise of anonymity.
