SOUTHEND MAN JAILED FOR KILLING ELDERLY WOMAN
A man named Hassan Salahi, aged 34 and residing on Cunningham Close, Southend, was linked to a serious incident in which an 88-year-old woman, Rosina Waller, was killed.She was assaulted on her way home on New Year’s Day and died due to head injuries received during the attack.
Salahi pled guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.
The court, sitting at Chelmsford Crown Court, issued a sentence under the Mental Health Act, reflecting ongoing mental health considerations.
Police reported that her family might find some reassurance in the fact that he had been removed from society.
The incident was described as brutal and unprovoked, with authorities emphasizing the emotional toll on Mrs.
Waller’s relatives.

Waller fell victim to a horrific and unprovoked attack by Hassan Salahi.
Although her family’s grief is profound, I hope this legal outcome provides them with some comfort knowing that her attacker is no longer in the community.' The woman was returning home after celebrating Christmas and New Year’s with friends and family when the assault occurred, and she died shortly after being admitted to hospital.
