HARRY SMEE SENTENCED IN COLCHESTER FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING 13-YEAR-OLD GIRLS
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Colchester, Harry Smee, aged 64, was found guilty of engaging in illegal sexual activities with two young girls, both only 13 years old.The offences, which involved Smee paying the minors for their participation in sexual acts, came to light after a series of investigations and a confrontation that revealed the extent of his misconduct.
According to court proceedings held at Chelmsford Crown Court, the crimes took place during September and October of the same year.
The incidents occurred at Smee's residence on Wellesley Road in Colchester, as well as at his workplace, an insurance firm where he was employed.
It was during a police intervention at Smee’s home that the allegations were brought to light, following a confrontation initiated by the brother of one of the victims.
The brother, having discovered what had transpired, decided to confront Smee directly, prompting police involvement.
During the court hearing, the prosecution, led by Nicola Crabb, detailed how Smee paid the two girls up to £70 each time they visited him.
These visits took place either at his home or at his office, where he exploited his position and trust to carry out these illicit acts.
The court was informed that Smee admitted to five charges of engaging in sexual activity with a child, a serious criminal offense that underscores the gravity of his actions.
In his defense, lawyer Marc Canatell argued that there had been no serious sexual contact between Smee and the girls, and emphasized that no force was used during the incidents.
Despite this, the court found the evidence sufficient to convict Smee of the charges.
As a result of his conviction, Harry Smee was sentenced to a total of 15 months in prison.
Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for the next ten years, a measure intended to monitor and restrict his activities following his release from custody.
The case has left the local community in Colchester deeply concerned about the safety of minors and the importance of vigilance against such predatory behavior.
