ALMONDBURY MAN JAILED AFTER STABBING PARTNER IN FRONT OF CHILDREN

AN ALMONDBURY man has been jailed after stabbing his girlfriend in front of their children.

Harrison Kinsella, formerly of Farfield Road, sank a kitchen knife into his partner Amy Walker’s back because he believed she was “secretly bringing other men in to the house”.

He pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The court heard that Kinsella was thought to be suffering from paranoia at the time after taking Mcat – a form of mephedrone.

Miss Walker had been preparing dinner for their two children at their home when Kinsella stabbed her.

Prosecuting barrister David Walters said: “Miss Walker and the defendant met about six years ago, formed a relationship and have two children aged two and one.

“The relationship became stuck about a year ago.

“Miss Walker detailed how his behaviour became worse and he was constantly accusing her of having affairs.

It was alleged that on April 25 last year, the couple had been arguing regarding money being paid back to Miss Walker’s mum.

Eventually her sister came round to collect the money but she left after Kinsella’s behaviour grew more aggressive.

“At around 4.30pm Miss Walker was preparing food for the children who were both present.

“She told the defendant she was going to her mother’s with the children and he replied ‘let’s see what happens when you walk out of this house with my kids’.

“As she turned around he was holding one of the kitchen knives.

She turned away and felt two strikes in her shoulder.

“She fell to the floor and the children were screaming.

“Kinsella told her to ring the police and he said he didn’t mean it.

“Miss Walker was screaming for him to go.

She kicked him and he immediately left.

“She went upstairs with the children who were upset and at this stage she realised she had been stabbed.

“An ambulance was called and her family was notified.

Yesterday at Leeds Crown Court, Judge Neil Clark sentenced Kinsella to eight months in prison.

He is expected to serve half that term.

A restraining order was put in place to stop Kinsella from contacting 20-year-old Miss Walker directly or indirectly and also to prevent him coming within 100 metres of their Almondbury home.

He will only be able to contact her through his sister Jenny to organise meetings with their children.

Kinsella handed himself in at Huddersfield Police Station later that evening.

He was crying and asking how she was before telling police: “I feel she is pushing me away.

I can’t believe I hurt her.

“I picked up a knife.

“I held it to her back, I felt it go through her coat.” Ian Brook defending said: “This was not a pre-meditated attack – it was opportunistic.” He claimed Kinsella deeply regretted it and was “aware of the affect his actions would have also on his young children.

“Article continues below “He offered to help the children and he told her to call the police and he handed himself in to the police.”
