DRUNK MAN BITES AND HEADBUTTS FATHER AFTER PET’S DEATH
A drunk man who bit his dad in the chest said he was in a state after his pet died.Coby Chambers flew into a rage and headbutted a door, repeatedly punching his father.
The 23-year-old has apologized for his shocking behaviour but explained he was an emotional wreck following the death of his beloved animal.
The children's sports coach pleaded guilty at Kirklees Magistrates' Court to assault and criminal damage.
Prosecutor Vicky Trueman stated that the incident occurred at the Almondbury home Chambers shares with his parents on June 9.
She explained: "That evening he returned home intoxicated and emotional.
His pet had been put down that day and he told his parents he would be better off dead." "Chambers then went to bed.
When his father entered his room out of concern over his threat to harm himself, he saw that his son had his mobile phone charging and was worried he might use it to hurt himself.
He removed the phone, which disconnected Chambers' call with his girlfriend." "In response, Chambers got up and pushed his father out of the room and bit him on the chest, leaving a mark.
He then went downstairs and headbutted an internal door, causing a panel to crack.
He also punched his father several times, resulting in swelling and bruising." Chambers, who lived on Southfield Road, stated he was drunk and upset when his father disconnected the call.
Defense lawyer Sam Jackson described the incident as a one-off, noting that the household was generally happy, and said Chambers could not remember much about what happened but accepted if his father’s account was accurate.
He was ordered to pay a fine of £200, along with £100 in compensation for the damage, £85 in costs, and a £30 victim surcharge.
The court noted that the incident was due to his emotional distress over his pet's death and that things had since calmed down, allowing their positive relationship to continue.
