US BUSINESSMAN JAILED FOR LIFE AFTER WIFE STABBING IN WORCESTERSHIRE
Harold Landry, a retired businessman, received a life sentence after fatally stabbing his wife Lucy Landry 23 times in Worcestershire.
The incident took place on 1 February 2010, with Lucy’s body discovered in a neighbor’s garden close to Pershore.
The 65-year-old former American, Landry, denied committing murder but admitted to manslaughter on grounds of provocation.
Justice Foskett described the attack as "unspeakable and unforgivable" and commented that Landry possesses a trait that, if provoked, could lead to serious violence.
Previously, Landry had a conviction in Louisiana for shooting a rival in 1994, which resulted in a suspended sentence for aggravated battery.
A crane designer for oil rigs, Landry was found guilty of murder largely because most of Lucy’s wounds were inflicted while she was on the ground.
The court dismissed his claim that Lucy had threatened him with a knife before the attack, considering it a fabricated defense.
He was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 16 years.
His family expressed some relief but recognized that no prison sentence could restore Lucy’s life.
Following the murder, Landry went to visit his new partner, gave her money, and then headed home on foot before being arrested by police during his walk.
