HABIB SHAH SHAMEL SENTENCED TO LIFE IN IRELAND AFTER LIMERICK MURDER
A man identified as Habib Shah Shamel has been handed a life sentence following his guilty plea to the murder of a sex worker in Ireland, an incident that took place over two years ago.The court proceedings took place at Belfast Crown Court on a recent Friday, where Shamel, aged 28, appeared to face the serious charges against him.
He is an Afghan national who previously resided on Cecil Street in Limerick, a city in Ireland known for its vibrant community and historical significance.
The victim, Geila Ibram, was a 27-year-old woman originally from Romania.
Her tragic death occurred at her apartment in Limerick city on April 4, 2023.
The court heard that she was subjected to multiple stab wounds, which included two injuries to her face, one to her chest, another to her abdomen, and a defensive wound on her forearm.
These injuries painted a grim picture of the violence inflicted upon her during the attack.
Legal evidence presented during the trial revealed that Shamel had made arrangements to meet Ms.
Ibram for sexual purposes through text messages.
According to senior prosecutor David McDowell KC, Shamel paid her €100 upon his arrival at her residence.
However, it was noted that Ms.
Ibram handed the money to a colleague, who was present at the scene.
Witnesses and evidence indicated that shortly after the meeting commenced, the colleague heard screams emanating from the apartment, which suggested that Shamel had carried out the stabbing.
The attack appeared to be swift, leading authorities to believe that it was premeditated.
Following the assault, Shamel fled the scene, initially traveling to Dublin before heading to Belfast by bus.
