GUY WATSON SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULTS IN PENARTH AND CARDIFF

A man from Penarth has been sentenced to prison after a series of disturbing sexual assaults committed while his victim was unconscious. Guy Watson, aged 33, was convicted of seven separate offences in June and received an eight-year prison term during a hearing at Cardiff Crown Court on Wednesday.

The investigation into Watson's crimes was initiated following his arrest on Christmas Day in 2022, which was initially related to a different matter. During this arrest, authorities uncovered mobile phone videos that depicted Watson engaging in sexual acts with a man who was asleep at the time. The footage clearly showed the victim in a deep sleep, with Watson's actions captured on video, raising serious concerns about the nature of the offences.

Further investigations led to the identification of the victim, and upon examining the mobile devices, police discovered additional videos that appeared to be similar in content. These findings confirmed a pattern of predatory behaviour by Watson, who denied all allegations during the trial. Despite his denials, the court found him guilty of five counts of sexual assault and two counts of causing a male to engage in sexual activity without his consent.

Detective Constable Christopher Day, representing South Wales Police, commented on the impact of Watson's actions, stating, "This incident has had a profound effect on the victim's mental health, his employment, and his relationships."

He further explained that the victim and Watson had been socialising in Watson's flat on Stanwell Road, Penarth, in April 2022. During this gathering, they were drinking and listening to music. The victim later reported that he could not recall what transpired after that point, only becoming aware of the assault when videos were discovered on his phone approximately a month later. This revelation has left the victim deeply traumatised, and authorities hope that the sentencing will provide some measure of closure as he works to rebuild his life.

In addition to his prison sentence, Watson was subjected to a 10-year restraining order preventing him from contacting the victim. He was also ordered to register as a sex offender indefinitely, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities to protect the public and prevent further offences.
