DUBLIN MAN FINED €400 FOR PUBLIC MASTURBATION AT M&S TOILETS
Gustavo Viturino, a 32-year-old man, was convicted of public masturbation at a Dublin Marks & Spencer store last June 14.The incident occurred in the men's toilets, which had become known among a small group of the gay community as a venue for sexual activity.
Gardaí witnessed Viturino engaging in the act, and he later pleaded guilty.
The court heard that he was arrested when the toilet was placed under surveillance, with reports indicating that the behavior had been ongoing for months.
Judge Bryan Smyth refused to leave Viturino without a criminal record, citing concerns that young boys could have also gone in.
Viturino, a tech worker and law student, expressed remorse and was described by his solicitor as cooperative, with a probation report indicating a low risk of reoffending.
Despite earlier requests for no criminal record, the judge convicted and fined him €400, emphasizing the potential harm and the presence of minors.
Viturino has experienced significant hardship, including the murder of his father, and has aspirations for a career in technology.
He also studies law as an undergraduate and has brought his mother to Ireland to support him.
