GURPREET DEV
The incident occurred after Dev discovered that he had been mortgaging his parents' home to cover his gambling debts.
Gurpreet Dev strangled his 51-year-old father and subsequently concealed the body in the trunk of his car.
The body was not discovered until four and a half months later, in March of the following year.
Evidence showed that Dev had attempted to digitally search for information related to murder and killing just a week before the crime.
The Old Bailey court sentenced Gurpreet Dev to serve a minimum of 14 years in prison, as ordered by Judge Paul Focke.
During the trial, it was revealed that Dev had also forged his parents’ signatures to obtain a £150,000 mortgage on their family home located in Seven Kings, Ilford, and had defrauded them of approximately £270,000.
The case highlighted Dev’s financial desperation due to heavy losses in stock exchange activities and internet spread betting, which ultimately led to this tragic outcome.
Additionally, Dev attempted to manipulate a cellmate into falsely implicating another household member for the murder.
