MAN WHO USED SOCIAL MEDIA TO TARGET YOUNG GIRLS JAILED
An investigation led by Essex Police resulted in safeguarding two young girls after an offender was imprisoned for attempting to manipulate and coerce them into sexual acts.
The law enforcement collaboration aimed to trace, investigate, and arrest 23-year-old Tye Hunt.
During 2022 and 2023, Hunt, residing in Essex, used Snapchat to groom two teenage girls aged 12 and 14.
He endeavored to meet the 12-year-old girl for sexual purposes, sending her explicit images and forcing her into reciprocation through manipulation.
Hunt also misled the 14-year-old by claiming to be 16, sending her explicit pictures, and offering to pay for a hotel to meet up.
The victims contacted their local police, who collected evidence and coordinated with Essex Police once Hunt’s residence in Harwich was established.
Hunt, now living on Brockley Road in London, was arrested and admitted to charges including attempting to arrange a child sex offence and engaging in sexual communication with a minor.
On 25 November at Chelmsford Crown Court, he was sentenced to nearly three years in prison.
He will also be subject to an ongoing Sexual Harm Prevention Order to oversee his behaviour and use of digital devices.
Restrictive orders were also put in place, forbidding any contact with the victims.
