GLASGOW RAPISTS GRILEST MARANAKU AND ELTON BAGA CONVICTED OF SEXUAL ASSAULT IN EAST END FLAT

In a disturbing case that has shocked the Glasgow community, two men of Albanian origin, Griselt Maranaku, aged 33, and Elton Baga, aged 32, also known as Leo Baga, were found guilty of raping a 29-year-old woman in a flat located in Glasgow's east end. The conviction was handed down at the High Court in Glasgow after a detailed trial that revealed the harrowing details of the assault.

According to court proceedings, the incident occurred over the course of two nights, on January 8 and 9 of the previous year. The victim, along with a female friend, had been socializing at a local pub when they encountered the two accused men. During their interaction, the victim initially believed she recognized one of the men, as he bore a resemblance to an acquaintance who worked at a chip shop in Glasgow. The women engaged in conversation with the men, and eventually, the victim's friend extended an invitation for them to return to her residence.

Once inside the flat, the situation took a sinister turn. The victim went to her bedroom, and both men followed her. It was during this time that they forcibly removed her clothing and subjected her to a brutal sexual assault. The court heard that the men struggled with her physically, and both men, who are originally from Albania, raped her. The victim was left distraught and distressed outside the flat, where her friend, still present in the residence, called the police.

During the trial, Maranaku claimed that the sexual encounter was consensual. Meanwhile, Baga's defense argued that the victim had asked him to participate in a threesome, a claim that was strongly contested by the prosecution. Both men denied the allegations of rape.

It was also revealed during the proceedings that both accused men are in the country illegally. Maranaku's legal representative, Frances Connor, stated that he had submitted an application for asylum, and Baga's lawyer, QC Edward Targowski, confirmed that his client had also applied for asylum.

Judge Sean Murphy QC, presiding over the case, ordered that both men be placed on the sex offenders' register. He also deferred sentencing until later in the month and remanded the defendants in custody pending further proceedings. The case has raised serious concerns about the safety of women in Glasgow and the presence of illegal immigrants involved in violent crimes.
