GREGORIO VALENCIA AND SHOCKING SEXUAL ABUSE IN HAVANT
In Havant, a disturbing case has come to light involving Gregorio Valencia, a man accused of subjecting a young girl to a prolonged and harrowing campaign of sexual abuse. Over the course of more than a year, Valencia, who resides on Horsebridge Road, engaged in a series of sinister acts that caused significant emotional and psychological harm to his young victim. The court heard that Valencia initiated his abusive conduct by touching the girl intimately, exploiting opportunities to carry out these acts. Prosecutor Simon Foster described some of the disturbing details, although refraining from complete repetition due to their sensitive nature. It was revealed that after one incident, the girl was overwhelmed with emotion and cried after Valencia left the room. The prosecution detailed how Valencia touched her inappropriately and even climbed on top of her during the incidents, which were characterized as especially serious. Mr. Foster emphasized that these acts were so severe that had the alarm been raised earlier, further harm might have been prevented.
During the court proceedings, the victim delivered a heartfelt statement, conveying her feelings of disgust and sadness. She described feeling “really scared and strange” during the incidents. She also mentioned that Valencia’s subsequent kindness and affection after the abuse made her feel confused and uncomfortable. The girl shared that she suffers from nightmares related to her experience, often dreaming about the abuse and waking up feeling anxious. She expressed that these recurring nightmares make her relive the trauma repeatedly, and she also harbors feelings of guilt, believing herself to be at fault for what happened.
Following his arrest, Valencia was notably uncommunicative, offering no comment when questioned by police. He later admitted to committing seven criminal offenses involving sexual activity with a minor. As a result, he was immediately placed on the sex offenders register. In an unusual development, police officers found that Valencia was not residing at his registered address but was living in his car to economize, raising concerns about his compliance or stability.
Judge Keith Cutler CBE addressed the court, underscoring the impact of Valencia’s actions on his victim. He stated that Valencia’s conduct had caused “distress and anxiety” to the girl and asserted, “She should not feel guilty at all. There is no blame on her or anyone else.” The judge made it clear that Valencia was solely responsible for the harm caused. He described the acts as “progressive,” acknowledging their seriousness while noting that they fortunately did not escalate further.
In light of his crimes, Valencia was sentenced to two and a half years in prison. Additionally, he admitted to breaching the terms of his sex offender notification requirements. The court imposed a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order on Valencia, which mandates ongoing restrictions and supervision. Furthermore, he was sentenced to an indefinite period of compulsory registration on the sex offenders register, ensuring long-term monitoring of his activities in the community.
