GREG STEWART'S BRUTAL INVERNESS DOMESTIC ABUSE REIGN OF TERROR REVEALED

A disturbing case of long-term domestic violence involving Greg Stewart has come to light during proceedings at Inverness Sheriff Court. The court heard harrowing details of Stewart’s 11-year pattern of abuse directed at multiple former partners, including violent assaults, threats, and emotional torment, with some incidents occurring while the victims were pregnant.

Greg Stewart, aged 31, was accused of inflicting physical violence and psychological abuse on his partners over more than a decade. The court was informed that just weeks before the birth of his first child, Stewart assaulted his then-pregnant partner in Inverness, causing her significant distress and concern for her unborn child. The prosecution, led by fiscal depute Pauline Gair, described Stewart as controlling and frequently angry, with a pattern of aggressive behavior that included grabbing his partner by the wrists and squeezing tightly while shouting at her. The victim described feeling isolated and helpless during her pregnancy, with Stewart calling her derogatory names such as useless and worthless, which she said had a profound and lasting impact on her life.

The court also detailed the ordeal of Stewart’s second victim, who sought refuge in a bathroom after an incident in August or September 2013. Stewart reportedly pushed the bathroom door so forcefully that it struck her on the left side of her stomach, leaving her with bruising. This victim gave birth to a child in October 2013, and their relationship, which lasted from May 2016 until January 2021, was characterized by ongoing physical and emotional abuse. She recounted that Stewart would call her offensive names, threaten to blow up her house and make it appear as a gas leak, and physically assault her by pushing and punching her. The violence escalated when she discovered she was pregnant again in May 2018; Stewart reportedly pushed his way into the bathroom where she sought refuge and then put his hands around her throat, threatening her with the words, “You ain’t going to be no mother to my child,” leaving her terrified and screaming for him to let go.

In January 2019, the couple moved to a new property in Inverness, just a month before their daughter was born. During this period, Stewart’s violent tendencies persisted. On one occasion, he grabbed her mobile phone as she was messaging a friend and smashed it on the ground. Their relationship ultimately ended in January 2021, but the court heard that Stewart’s abusive behavior continued beyond that point. In September of the same year, he entered into a new relationship with another woman in Inverness. The court was told that Stewart would leave her to pay all the bills, call her offensive names, and repeatedly ask her for money to buy drugs. The woman was forced to administer heroin into Stewart’s arm, but when she refused, he reportedly pinned her to the bed, took a syringe of heroin, and threatened to inject her with it, saying, “I’ll inject you with this and then you’ll see how it feels.” Stewart has been addicted to heroin for 16 years, and his mental health issues include ADHD and autism.

During the hearing, Stewart pleaded guilty via video link from HMP Perth to four charges: two counts of assault, one of threatening behavior, and one of a campaign of domestic abuse involving violence. The court was informed that a background report was requested by Stewart’s defense solicitor, Rory Gowans, to include a risk assessment. Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald agreed to defer sentencing until February 25 to allow for the report’s preparation, emphasizing that Stewart’s behavior was “stark” and that a custodial sentence was “highly likely.” The court’s proceedings highlighted the severity and persistence of Stewart’s abusive conduct, which has caused lasting trauma to his victims and poses ongoing risks to others.
