COLCHESTER POSTMAN FACES JAIL FOR VOYEURISM OFFENCE
A postman accused of possessing a large collection of indecent images of minors has been warned that he could face prison when he is sentenced later this year.Court records reveal that Borroff had 2,793 inappropriate images of children on his devices at the time of his arrest.
A pre-sentence report identified him as being at low risk of committing further offenses but deemed him to be at high risk to children.
During his appearance unrepresented before a judge, Borroff did not accept this assessment.
He stated: “I want to make it as easy as possible for the system.
I spoke with a solicitor at the police station – I’ll be honest, I don’t trust them, and I believe they might complicate my situation.
During my initial arrest, a solicitor insisted I remain silent throughout the interview.
At my second interview, the same solicitor attempted to advise me, but I tried to remove him from the room – I didn’t want him there.” He added: “I’m not a lawyer – I’m not sure what a solicitor can do beyond the truth.
I’ve been truthful from the start, and the disturbing content found in the images reflects my behavior—numbers alone do not explain it.” The judge, Mr.
Richard Christie, stated that the sentencing is scheduled for six weeks from now, allowing Borroff to secure legal counsel and review the pre-sentence report prepared by the probation service.
He explained: “You have not been given all the relevant material, and you need to see it.
You have not seen the pre-sentence report, so you are not in a position to mitigate your sentence effectively.” The judge also remarked: “This case is likely to provoke significant public concern.
I strongly recommend you to seek legal representation and have someone review the documents to provide advice.
You are currently expressing views that may not be in your best interest to present.” Borroff, who resides on Mile End Road in Colchester, will face sentencing in April.
