GLEN ADRIAN THRELKELD FROM ACCRINGTON AND WIGTON SENTENCED FOR SEX OFFENSES AND BREACHES
In May 2018, a convicted sex offender named Glen Adrian Threlkeld was brought before Blackburn magistrates on charges related to his failure to comply with a sexual harm prevention order.Threlkeld, aged 22 and residing on Lydia Street in Accrington, was found to be in possession of internet-enabled devices that lacked the necessary software to record or store his browsing history.
This was a breach of the strict conditions imposed on him to ensure transparency with law enforcement authorities.
The court proceedings revealed that police had discovered a computer and a gaming console in Threlkeld’s possession.
Both devices were capable of accessing the internet; however, crucially, neither had the capacity to log or store his internet activity.
This omission raised concerns about his attempts to evade monitoring and compliance with the order.
Threlkeld pleaded guilty to two charges of breaching the sexual offences prevention order, which was designed to prevent him from engaging in activities that could pose a risk to others.
Following his guilty plea, Threlkeld was remanded into custody and transferred to Preston Crown Court for sentencing.
The case highlighted ongoing issues related to monitoring sex offenders and ensuring they adhere to legal restrictions meant to protect the public.
Separately, in November 2014, Threlkeld’s name was associated with a heinous crime in Wigton, where he was involved in a brutal sexual assault.
The incident took place on September 7, when an 18-year-old woman was waiting for a taxi in Wigton.
According to reports from Cumbria Police, Threlkeld, also 18 at the time, lured the victim into a secluded area under the false impression that he was armed with a knife.
The attack was described by authorities as a “terrible assault,” leaving the victim traumatized and fearful for her safety.
Glen Threlkeld, from Waver Lane in Wigton, admitted to charges of rape and causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
His actions prompted a severe legal response, with the judge at Carlisle Crown Court sentencing him to seven years in prison.
Additionally, Threlkeld was placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions.
Det Insp Mike Brown of Cumbria Police expressed his condemnation of Threlkeld’s actions, stating, “Threlkeld preyed on a young female, making her fear for her life.
The victim is still dealing with the trauma caused by this terrible attack.
She has been extremely brave throughout the whole process, and we hope that the sentence will aid her recovery.” Isla Chilton from the Crown Prosecution Service North West emphasized the significance of the sentence, noting, “Glen Threlkeld has today been given a substantial prison term, removing him from society and reducing the risk he poses to females.
When questioned, he initially fabricated multiple stories to deny responsibility.
However, faced with overwhelming evidence, including DNA, he ultimately pleaded guilty to the charges.”
