GLEN CARTER FROM NORTHOLT ESCAPES JAIL DESPITE SEX WITH UNDERAGE GIRL IN LONDON
In a case that has drawn significant attention, Glen Carter, a 25-year-old resident of Northolt, managed to avoid a custodial sentence despite admitting to engaging in sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl.The incident took place over a period extending from December of the previous year to April this year, during which Carter had sexual encounters with the underage girl on three separate occasions.
Initially, Carter misrepresented his age to the girl, claiming he was 18, which added a layer of complexity to the case.
His actions came to light when police arrested him in June, but the girl, who cannot be named due to legal restrictions, chose not to cooperate with authorities at first.
Prosecutor Jessica Cook explained to Isleworth Crown Court that the relationship lasted approximately four months until April, after which the girl refused to return to her mother and declined to assist police with their inquiries.
It was only later that she provided a detailed account of her relationship with Carter.
During the court proceedings, Ms.
Cook highlighted that the only contentious issue was whether Carter had, on one occasion, pulled her hair, pushed her, and exhibited obsessive behavior within the relationship.
She also described the girl as “a troubled young lady,” which may have influenced the case's context.
Glen Carter pleaded guilty to three charges of sexual activity with a child.
His defense attorney, Sarah Ellis, emphasized Carter’s mental health issues, noting that he had lost three stone while in custody on remand and suffered from psychiatric problems and asthma.
Ellis argued that the sexual encounters were consensual, stating that the girl appeared older than her age and that the sexual activity only occurred when she was comfortable with it, asserting there was no violence involved.
Judge Sam Katkhuda, presiding over the case at Isleworth Crown Court, carefully considered the sentencing options.
He reminded the court that the law is designed to protect young girls from exploitation and that, under such circumstances, the maximum penalty for such offenses is 14 years in prison.
The judge also noted that even with consent, the starting point for sentencing should be four years of custody.
However, after reviewing various reports and taking into account Carter’s time spent on remand, the judge decided against imprisonment.
Instead, he imposed a community order for three years, which includes supervision and participation in sex offender programs.
Additionally, Carter is required to register as a sex offender for the next five years, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities and compliance with legal obligations.
